The Club Now
|
On 25 April 2018 the club became a 100% National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) Club. This allowed the club
to get collection insurance on the modules and liability insurance for the clubs display events. This
is a great step forward in removing the members from liability due to loss or injury.
|
The club started having financial issues after buying a trailer to move the modules.
The officers voted to continue to work on the removal of liability and to become a tax exempt
organization to allow the club to take in donations. At the same time, the officers voted to double
the dues. This was to cause a number of members to leave the club or become associate members. The
doubling of dues was reversed a few months later, and an assessment was levied instead to met the
clubs' financial responsablities.
|
On 22 May 2019 the club submitted an application to the Georgia Secretary of State to become a
Not-For-Profit Corporation. On 17 July 2019 the application was approved and as of the application date
the Middle Georgia Modele Railroad Club became a Not-For-Profit Corporation. On 18 August 2021 the club
submitted an application to the Interal Revenue Service, IRS, to become a 501(c)(3), Public Charity.
On 24 November 2021 the IRS approved the application. The work started in 2004 to become a 501(c)(3)
organization was finally realized.
|
With such a great team of truly dedicated
model railroaders at the throttle, the future should be "as bright as a locomotive's headlight" for
the Middle Georgia Model Railroad Club Incorporated.
